Mollem National Park (Bhagwan Mahaveer Sanctuary)

Gaoas’s Mollem National Park is present in the Western Ghats.  It is near the town of Mollem.  This park is about 60 km South East of Panaji.  Panaji is the capital city of Goa.
The earlier name of this park is Mollem Game Sanctuary.  This park has become a wildlife sanctuary in 1969.  Later, the name of the park is changed into Bhangwan Mahaveer Sanctuary.  These parks have variety of wildlife that includes animals such as barking deer, Bengal tiger, leopard, bonnet, macaque and the Malabar giant squirrel. 

Bhagwan sanctuary is also famous for the 12th century Tambdi surla temple, Devil’s canyon, sunset point and Tambdi waterfalls.

Birds in Mollem

Mollem National Park is a great bird-watchers dream.  The fairy bluebird, wag tails, three-toed kingfisher, drongo, golden oriole and the great Indian hornbill are some of the species found here.  Many species of butterflies like blue Mormon and crimson rose adds beauty to this Mollem National park.
