Hogenakkal is situated on the border of Karnataka.  It is about 46km from Dharmapuri.  The river Cauvery flows through this waterfalls and make the soil fertile.  Cauvery is one of the major rivers of India.  It is also a perennial river for South India. 

The river Cauvery originates as a small stream and gathers momentum of water in Hogenakkal through the Kudagu which is in Karnataka.  Cauvery enters Tamil Nadu as a big river with gushing waters which presents a waterfall.  The panoramic view of Hogenakkal is very descent by seeing the setting of river Cauvery. 

The name Hogenakkal is derived from Kanada.  Hoge means smoke and kal means rock.  The meaning of this name is “smoky rocks.”  The water that falls from place is called as Hogenakkal.  The gushing force of water gives wonderful sight when its falls on the rocks look like a smoke emanating from the rocks. 

The water makes a continuous thundering sound and the falls descends as far as 20m at many places.  This gives the area a different atmosphere.  The water of this falls spreads a mile around.  The boats which are made by the local people are called as parisal.  A parisal ride will gives us a rare experience. 

Hogenakkal is surrounded by variety of hills in various heights.  It is considered as a best tourist place for refreshing and relaxing.  It offers a different ambience to the visitors.  Fresh fish caught in this river is cooked and served.  We can take oil bath and oil massages in this falls.  The forest department maintains a mini zoo and crocodile park which gives more attraction and entertainment to the people.
